decoderHealth's fasting tracker keeps a timer and session history on your device. It records start times, targets, and end times; it does not measure biological changes. This guide describes the app controls rather than recommending a fasting schedule.
Choosing a target
The target picker offers time-window presets and fixed-duration sessions, with an Extended option for a longer custom goal. The selected target is remembered for your next visit. A target controls the timer display and progress calculation; it is not a medical recommendation.
Review the selected target and start time before beginning a session. The timer's progress is based on those stored values.
Starting and reading the timer
- Open Fasting from the main app navigation.
- Select a target and review the starting details.
- Start the session.
- Review elapsed time, the target, and the progress ring while the fast is active.
Elapsed time is calculated from the stored start time rather than an accumulated counter. Leaving the screen or restarting the app does not restart the session's elapsed duration.
Adjusting an active session
Use Adjust fast to change the active target or start time. A new target immediately changes the ring and percentage. The target for the next fast is a separate setting, so adjusting this session does not require changing that saved preference.
Extended targets provide a goal-end field. The target is stored as a duration so changes to the session start can preserve the chosen length.
Ending or discarding a fast
End fast opens the end-time form. Its default is the current time, but you can record an earlier actual end if you stopped before reopening decoderHealth. An end before the start is not accepted by the form.
Ending stores the session in completed history. Discard removes the active session instead. These controls have different effects, so review the confirmation before completing either action.
Reviewing completed sessions
Open Fasting history from the Fasting app-bar menu. Completed sessions can be opened and edited to correct their target, start, or end. The displayed duration follows the saved times rather than an assumed preset.
Editing history does not create a Health Connect or Apple Health record. Fasting remains a decoderHealth-local tracker.
Understanding phase references
The timer includes reference phases and links to explanatory material. Their positions are based on elapsed time and the selected target. They are not readings from a sensor and do not confirm that a biological process has occurred in an individual.
The available references can provide context for the display, but the timer cannot assess whether a particular target is appropriate for you.
Storage and daily context
Fasting sessions stay in decoderHealth's local database. They are not restored by reconnecting a health source or signing in to a paid account. Keep that distinction in mind when moving to another device.
The dashboard and supported summaries can use recorded fasting durations alongside other available data. Core fasting controls and history do not require decoderPro. For the full app overview, read the user guide.
